KNOWN to millions for his TV coverage of royal events, former newsreader Sir Martyn Lewis is to report on a royal pageant of a very different kind when he cones to Malvern Theatres next month.

He will be joining leading choir and period instrument ensemble Armonico Consort for a concert inspired by the majestic coronation ceremonies of 16th-century Venice.

Knighted in the 2016 New Year’s Honours for voluntary and charitable work, Sir Martyn was a familiar face on BBC and ITV news until retiring in 1999.

The concert is directed by Christopher Monks with Armonico Consort and Baroque Players together with the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble. Audiences can experience the 16-part surround sound of Andrea Gabrieli’s Gloria and Giovanni Gabrieli’s Omnes Gentes, alongside other gems of the Italian Renaissance.

Venice: The Doge’s Coronation with Sir Martyn Lewis and Armonico Consort is at Malvern Theatres on Saturday, February 6, at 7.45pm. Tickets are available from 01684 892277 and malvern-theatres.co.uk.
