A MALVERN motoring club has arranged a fundraising skittles tournament in aid of a campaign raising money for a state-of-the-art machine treating prostate cancer patients.

For the second year running the Malvern and District Motorcycle and Light Van Club has decided to donate the proceeds of its summer skittles tournament to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s Rory the Robot campaign.

The campaign is aiming to raise £1.6 million for the state-of-the-art surgical machine, which will allow surgeons at Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital to remove tumours with greater precision and less blood loss, reduced recovery times and lower risk of compilations.

Last year the club raised £1,250 with the tournament, which runs throughout the summer months and involves more than 30 teams from Malvern and the surrounding area.

The club’s chairman Andy Ledington said he hoped the tournament would raise even more this year.

“We decided to help knock down prostate cancer one skittle at a time,” he said.

“We like to support local causes and Rory the Robot appealed to us because we have a lot of members who could potentially benefit from him at some point.”

To enter the tournament email info@malvernmotorcycleclub.co.uk. The deadline for entries is Friday, May 22.
