A GOOD field of participants from far and wide made the 2015 Poets Path Potter at Dymock a great success, say organisers.

The event, held over the paths around the village dedicated to the memory of the famous poets who lived in the area in the early 20th century, attracted everyone from international long-distance runners to walkers tackling their first eight-mile event.

Leading the way home was Gloucester Athletic Club's Welsh international runner Jeremy Mower, who completed the marathon in a new course record of three hours 58 minutes, retaining his title from last year.

Equal second place some 38 minutes later was taken by two runners who had travelled some distance to take part - Peter Grigoleit of Basingstoke and Mid Hants, and Sebastian Parris of the Barnes Runners, who crossed the finish line together.

Also retaining her title, former England long distance international Angie Sadler finished equal first lady with Ingrid Harris (Almost Athletes) in another course record time of four hours 59 mins.

Gloucester AC runners took the first three places 1-2-3 in the 16 mile event, with Nigel Nash just leading his team mates Philip Du Plessis and Sharon Nash home in three hours 19 minutes.

The two eight-mile events were very close run, with Simon Barker (Newent Runners) completing the Poets Path I run in one hour 15 minutes and Mouse Clutterbuck (Dursley AC) finishing the Poets Path II option in one hour 16 minutes.

Resident running poet Kathy Tytler started the event with readings, and later entertained runners and helpers at the Poets Path Potter Prom with live entertainment from her and the band Carpe Diem.

The Poets Path Potter is primarily organised as a charity fundraiser, and it is estimated that several hundred pounds have been raised to share between the Dymock Church roof appeal, Friends of the Dymock Poets, and Sport for Good.
