FAMILIES are being encouraged to get wild about wildlife during the Easter holidays.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is offering a series of holiday activities to help children discover more about the "fascinating" world of wildlife.

The conservation charity inspires about 3,000 children a year through its holiday activities, events and work with schools.

Hannah Thomas, engagement officer at the trust, said: “Spring is arriving so what better way to spend your Easter holidays than getting outside and discovering a new world.

“Our events provide the perfect chance to brush off the winter cobwebs with fresh air and fun activities.

“Throughout Easter we’ll be discovering more about birds, reptiles, amphibians and spring in general across the county.

“Families will need to book for our smaller events but we’ve also got a drop-in event in Malvern at the end of the holidays.”

The holiday fun begins with ‘wild about spring’ at Lower Smite Farm between Worcester and Droitwich on Wednesday, April 1, when families can explore the wildlife-friendly garden looking for signs of spring and discovering wildlife through games and activities.

On Thursday, April 2, birds will be under the spotlight as ‘wild about Upton Warren’ takes families on a journey through identification, adaptations and migration at the trust’s nature reserve between Droitwich Spa and Bromsgrove.

The ‘wild about’ team return to Lower Smite Farm on Wednesday, April 8, with ‘wild about reptiles and amphibians’. This will give families the chance to search for slow-worms and pond-dip for tadpoles and newts before finding out about their lifecycle.

The Easter holidays culminate with a ‘wild about Malvern’ event at Priory Park in the middle of the town from 11am to 3pm. There will be free activities from bird spotting trails to crafts, as well as plenty of information for adults.

Hannah Thomas added: “We’ve been looking forward to the start of spring for a while now and are really eager to get outside and explore.

“Our holiday activities attract families of all ages and are a great opportunity to get outside and discover our weird and wonderful wildlife.”

Booking is essential for most of the two-hour sessions, which cost £3.50 per child, while donations are welcome for the Malvern event.
