A STUDENT from Dymock will tackle an abseiling challenge to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Bethany Ford, aged 18, has a very personal reason to tackle the 114 metre drop for charity.

She said: “I chose to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust because it is important to support them in raising funds which will be used for research. My 13 year old sister Imogen has cystic fibrosis and I want to show her my support by raising money.

"I’m raising money to help my little sister and all the people with cystic fibrosis. Imogen has to stick to a strict daily routine of medication and physiotherapy just to stay well. This is a small thing that I can do to show her I’m trying to do all that I can to help."

Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening genetic condition – only half of sufferers live to celebrate their 40th birthday. It causes the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, to become clogged with thick sticky mucus, resulting in chronic infections and inflammation of the lungs.

Miss Ford said: “To date I have done a skydive with my friend Paige as well as more sedate activities like coffee mornings and quizzes. This abseil will probably be the scariest thing I have ever done.”

The abseil challenge will take place in London's Olympic Park on Sunday April 12.
