THE LEDBURY Band Aid event in the Parish Church, on Saturday December 20 attracted over twenty participants and raised more than £150 to help the Ebola victims of West Africa,

Ledbury curate, the Revd Tony Hodder, speaking on the evening to the modest number there, said he hoped the event would grow as an annual Ledbury tradition.

"Next year the church will be full," he said.

His words were echoed by fellow organiser, Chris Loten, who is saying a big thank you to everyone who helped with the fund-raiser.

Mr Loten said: " Can I express my thanks to all those people who helped #Band Aid 30: Live in Ledbury Parish Church.

"Maybe you offered words of encouragement, a poster in your window, asked community leaders for help, tweeted and blogged, provided refreshments or offered use of the building; it all helped."

The well-run evening took the format of a karaoke style sing-song, with the words projected on a big screen, and it closed with a performance of the Band Aid anthem, "Feed the World."

Another highlight was a screening of the animated film, The Man Who Planted Trees, to show how relatively small actions, carried out by an individual, can have a large effect in the world.

After the last song, mince pies and mulled wine were served by volunteers.

It is not to late to donate to the good cause.

Mr Loten said: "We raised £151.29 on the night but can hold the collection open to further donations.

"Many people have asked me if they can still donate to the cause through Ledbury Parish Church. If you missed the event but still want to contribute, please drop your donation in an envelope marked "BandAid30" into the church collection chest."
