Herefordshire councillors will probably not be visited by ghosts this Christmas.
The Council has agreed to introduce the Living Wage, £7.85 per hour, for its lowest paid members of staff.
This was agreed following a debate during the full council meeting on Friday, December 12.
Green Party councillor Felicity Norman proposed the motion.
She said afterwards: “I am delighted that Herefordshire Council has voted for this motion, which will go some way to improving incomes for some of our lowest paid employees.
"We had a very lively debate. I do believe that adopting the Living Wage, 21% higher than the Minimum Wage, will set a good example which I hope other employers will follow."
Cllr Norman added: "It has already been introduced by over 1,000 employers, including many other councils."
