BROMYARD and Winslow Town Council is to become a Living Wage Employer.

The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the council's finance and properties committee.

Although there is a National Minimum Wage set at £6.50 per hour the Living Wage Foundation promotes a Minimum Living Wage of £7.85 per hour which is designed to properly reward those who support themselves through work and is based on the amount an individual needs to earn to cover the basic costs of living.

The council employs four people who are currently paid below this Minimum Living Wage, although above National Minimum Wage.

From April 1, these employees will receive the Minimum Living Wage to underline the Council’s support for the principle that work should pay.
