1020 spring lambs: A sound entry of lambs, more forward than expected but those that did bring a few will be glad they did, as the trade has fell all week since. An SQQ of 150p/kg would be very respectable on the day and week with a pleasing top price of 176p/kg for a pen of 41.5kg lambs from R.S Eckley and Son, Fforddfawr. Meat and quality are still selling to a premium. It may be that we see a few difficult weeks now after the festival but if you have your lambs fit keep selling.
366 cull ewes and rams: Another very good entry of ewes and still a better trade than expected especially after the festival. Some vendors even stating their ewes were better sold than last week. The hardest selling types are the Welsh and Speckle ewes because they are everywhere! Meat and strength still selling well. We may see a few steady weeks but the ewes will get dearer in a few weeks.
