RESIDENTS have until next Tuesday to view proposed new travel options for the south of Hereford.

The South Wye Package- Active Travel Measures exhibition has been on display for the last four weeks can currently be seen at the Hereford Leisure Pool.

Herefordshire Council is asking for people's views on a range of walking, cycling, speed limits and traffic calming measures throughout the area, including a bus lane in Belmont Road, pictured.

The consultation, which focuses on walking and cycling improvements south of the River Wye, was launched at the Three Counties Hotel and has also been displayed at the Business Solutions Centre in Rotherwas, the Kindle Centre and Tesco, Belmont.

Councillor Phillip Price, cabinet member for infrastructure, said: "I’ve been pleased with the high level of interest shown in the exhibitions, which has been mirrored by over 200 of consultation questionnaires being submitted by post and online.

"We hope that keeping the exhibitions accessible by displaying them in locations with naturally high footfall will mean that we are making it easy for people to let us know what they think."

The proposed active travel measures also include a 20mph limit in residential areas, walking and cycling improvements on Belmont Road, a weight restriction on Belmont Road and better routes to Hereford’s Enterprise Zone.

It also proposes walking and cycling links on Hoarwithy Road, Hinton Road and Holme Lacy Road as well as a traffic reduction on Walnut Tree Avenue and Hunderton Road.

The aim of the scheme, the council said, is to promote economic growth in Hereford while tackling specific problems in the South Wye area which are mainly caused by congestion on the A465 and A49.

If nothing is done the council expects increased congestion along the A465 as a result of economic growth.

The exhibition panels will be available to view at Hereford Leisure Pool until Tuesday, October 25.
