A COUPLE who first met when trying out their new roller skates at the age of 12 have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Cal and Cecily Edwards from Mansel Lacy first met in Oswestry where they both lived just half a mile apart.

They had been given roller skates and both were trying them out when Cecily knocked Cal over on the pavement.

Cal said: "That started a relationship that lasted until now."

They got married at age 21 at Oswestry Parish Church in Shropshire on August 6, 1956.

They had three children, Karen, Dawn and Mark and have eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Cal worked for British Telecom at Madley Satellite Station and retired in 1990.

When asked what the secret was to a happy marriage Cal said: "Have disagreements but don't argue about it. We never end an argument, we start another one- it is easier that way."

They had a party with 60 guests to celebrate their diamond anniversary.

Cal added: "We have had a very happy marriage. We still look at one another with romance in our eyes."
