THREE inspiring members of the Leominster community have been recognised.

The Leominster Civic Awards celebrate the contribution made by individuals and organisations to the town and its people.

This year the awards recognised Bob Ellis, Jean Jones and Bob Miles.

Mr Ellis has donated his time to a wide range of deserving causes, having helped expand the town’s 'Meals on Wheels' service and through involvement with the Saverne Twinning group.

He has also volunteered with the Priory and Leominster Festival Box Office, and helped to set up the Leominster Tourist Information Centre (TIC).

He has attended a number of events over the years, firstly as mace-bearer for the Mayor and later as 'Master at Arms'.

Now aged 90, he continues to do a weekly volunteer shift at the TIC.

Jean Jones has spent more than 40 years regularly helping students with reading and maths as a volunteer in both Herefordshire and Ludlow.

She was a stalwart member of the local WI branch for many years, serving as chairman and president.

She also instigated a new community group called ‘The Breakaways’ and is on the committee of the Hospital League of Friends and regularly organises the annual fundraising luncheon.

For the last five years, Bob Miles has co-ordinated Leominster’s team of dedicated Community First Responders.

The town has three highly skilled first responders, who support the ambulance service and are on-call at all times.

They provide their own equipment and attend regular training sessions each year.

As a first responder, and as team coordinator, Mr Miles works tirelessly to ensure Leominster residents have access to expert first aid care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The awards were given by last year's Mayor of Leominster, Councillor Felicity Norman.
