STAFF at a Hereford bank will get on their bike this Friday to raise money for a man's potentially life-saving cancer treatment.

Stuart Brookes, 30, needs to raise £150,000 to be able to go to the USA for clinical trials which could save his life after being diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer, metastasis myxoid liposarcoma.

The personal trainer has been told he has just 18 months to live after the disease returned for the second time in two years.

Now, his friend, Tom Miles, from Hereford has joined the fundraising drive to get Mr Brookes to the USA and will be completing a virtual cycle along with colleagues at Hereford's Halifax branch this Friday.

He said: "I met Stuart about six or seven years ago in Worcester through a friend. He's one of the funniest blokes I've met and is such an active guy. Because he lives in London, I decided to do the cycle to London on an exercise bike in the banking hall at the Halifax. Everyone at work is getting involved so there will be about 15 of us and we're hoping that someone will be on the bike all day.

"We're going to have collection buckets for people to donate and have cakes and snacks for customers too. Its part of Halifax's 'day to make a difference'.

"It gives us, as the staff, the chance to raise money for charity. Anything we can raise will be amazing."

The bike is being donated by Point4. Anyone who wants to help raise vital funds can visit the bank on Friday or visit supportstuart.co.uk for more information.
