A PRESTEIGNE woman who has spent 2014 raising funds for a Leominster boy who was injured in a car accident is preparing for her final challenge.

Louise Phillips started her mission in January this year with a plan to run 14 races in 2014 to raise funds for Leominster’s Freddie Saunders.

The youngster, now three, finally returned home last month after being seriously injured in a head-on collision at Nordan last October.

Freddie suffered a serious spinal injury and spent several months in a halo neck brace.

And after a year of mammoth fundraising, Mrs Phillips now has just one race left to go – the Portsmouth Coastal Waterfront Marathon which takes place this weekend.

She said: "It's an interesting course which can involve wet feet due to the incoming tide in some sections.

"As well as the traditional water station refreshments, this one serves mince pies and mulled wine too.

"I am very much looking forward to it and am hoping that the money raised for Freddie’s sensory room – currently approximately £3,000 – will increase once I have completed all 14 races.

"Freddie is home and doing well and I hope to meet up with him and his mum again over the holidays."

So far, Mrs Phillips' fundraising has taken her as far as Florence and she has taken part in a mixture of marathons and half marathons.

The money will be used to help build Freddie a sensory playroom.
