LADY Darnley, Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant for Herefordshire, recently appointed Able Cadet Phoenix-Louise as a Lord-Lieutenant Cadet for 2018/2019 at the ceremony held at the Shire Hall, Hereford.

The Lord-Lieutenant acts as Her Majesty the Queen's representative in Herefordshire, attending functions on her behalf when she is unable to attend, accompanying royal visitors and bestowing awards in her stead.

The Lord-Lieutenant appoints a cadet from each of the cadet organisations to aid in these various activities - one from the Sea Cadets, Combined Cadet Force, Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps.

The Lord-Lieutenant's Cadets are the finest of the many talented young people in the cadet forces within Herefordshire. They are excellent leaders and a credit to their organisations and to the county.

Able Cadet Phoenix-Louise said "It's an incredible honour to receive this award. I look forward to assisting the Lord-Lieutenant in her duties and hope I can be a good role model for other cadets."

William Whiteway-Wilkinson, CPO (SCC), OiC at Hereford Sea Cadet unit, said: "We are delighted for Able Cadet Phoenix-Louise, it shows a testament to her hard work and commitment to the Sea Cadets, we are all very proud of her achievement. To be recognised really is an honour."

Sea Cadets offers so many opportunities to both adults and young people. It is important to remember that the Hereford Unit is an independent charity that relies on volunteers in the local community to help make a positive difference to the lives of so many young people in the area.

If you think you could help, please get in touch. Likewise, if you are between the ages of 10 and 18 and are interested in becoming a Sea Cadet, they'd would love to hear from you.

Sea Cadets Hereford, which is part of national charity Sea Cadets, gives young people a new perspective. Working across the UK with 14,000 young people between 10 and 18, they help them see the world with confidence, gained through the challenge of nautical adventure and a Royal Navy ethos. The aim is to help more young people to see the future that they want – and make that future happen.

The unit parades on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm, and meets at T.S. Antelope, Riverside Walk, Greyfriars Avenue, Hereford. Visit sea-cadets.org/hereford to find out how you can join. For more information, please contact: info@herefordseacadets.org.uk
