ON November 15 members, Friends and Trustees of Leominster Meeting Centre for people with dementia and carers were delighted to open their doors to over 70 visitors from all areas of the community.
Refreshments were available all day and visitors had the opportunity to participate in screen printing in the morning and a glamorous tea dance facilitated by Rachel Freeman in the afternoon.
The centre has been open for nearly two years and is going from strength to strength. In recognition of this and to say thank you to supporters a ceremony of celebration took place at noon announced by the Town Crier.
Guest speakers included Lady Susanna McFarlane DL, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire, Councillor Jenny Bartlett, (Deputy Mayor) and Councillor John Stone. Yvie George who was previously the activity co-ordinator at the centre and now in a similar role in Brecon read a poem The Magic of the Meeting Centre.
Members and carers shared their experiences of attending the Meeting Centre. One member said, 'I love it here because it's full of ordinary everyday life and fun.'
The ceremony ended with a cutting of, and distribution of, a wonderful cake created by Rita Graham.
Leominster Meeting Centre is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. If you would like further information please ring 01568 368180 or 07465839660 or email leominstermeetingcentre@gmail.com
