TWENTY years ago three Knighton men Matt Clark, Mike Gammon and Trevor Lloyd started the Radnor Ramble. The event with a 15 mile and 25 mile walk around the local countryside became very successful attracting walkers from all over the UK.

This year was the last Radnor Ramble and attracted 111 walkers, some taking part for the first time others having done nearly all 20 events.

The route for the last ramble was the same as the first one with walkers starting from the church hall, going up the Ffrydd, through the wood , onto the golf course, over Rhos-y-Meirch, to Monaughty then the 15 mile walkers went over Litton hill to Dolau Green to the check point before returning to Knighton via the Offa's Dyke path.

After leaving the other walkers at Monaughty the 25 mile walkers went up to the top of Radnor Forest, back down just below Whimble Hill, then down towards Evenjobb where they linked up with the Offa's Dyke path to take them to the check point at Dolau Green with the others and then back to Knighton.

Some of these 25 mile walkers got back in around five hours and others in nearer ten hours.

The organisers had always said they would do 20 years. Matt Clark said "I would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years by either taking part or helping on the day. We always said that we would do 20 yearly events and this 20th year turned out to be a fantastic day for all".

Over the years the organisers have donated thousands of pounds to charities including large donations to the Braken Trust, The Friends of Knighton Primary School, The Wales Air Ambulance, Wales Search and Rescue Dogs as well as many smaller local charities.
