LOCAL primary school teacher Tom Davies completed his 1100 mile Welsh wander on October 1 when he arrived home to share celebrations with family and friends.

His final stretch was along Offa's Dyke from Gladestry to Presteigne to complete his trek around the perimeter of Wales in 63 days of walking.

Tom's final day saw him walking across Kington Golf Course where he is a member. He was greeted on Bradnor Hill by a large gathering of family, friends and also some of the children he has taught. Following a warm welcome in the bar and a cooked breakfast, he continued on the last miles of his journey along Offa's Dyke to Granner Wood and then down the lane to Presteigne.

At home, he was greeted by family and friends and also the Mayor of Presteigne, Colin Kirkby. The icing on the cake was a surprise visit from BBC Wales Today weatherman, Derek Brockway, who arrived to share the celebrations. Derek was kind enough to spend an afternoon walking with Tom into Barry a couple of weeks ago and has been following his blog. Tom would like to thank Derek, Colin and all of his family and friends for making his homecoming such a special day.

Tom has managed to raise over £5300 for the Alzheimer's Society in memory of his Grandma and to support his Granddad who suffers from vascular dementia.

He has been overwhelmed by the support of so many people who have sponsored him or helped him along the way.
