THE Cheltenham Regency Probus Club welcomed a surprise visitor to their special mixed meeting at the bowling club in Suffolk Square. Chairman Colin Fuller and club members were introduced to Harrison the bear wearing his Purple 'End Polio Now' sweater. Harrison promotes the eradication of polio around the globe working with Rotary worldwide raising millions of dollars with matched funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Ledbury Rotarian Jan Long, who had been invited to give a presentation on the life of local heroine Elizabeth Barrett Browning accompanied Harrison. He concluded the meeting with an update about the local Rotary District 1100, raising £30,000 towards the polio fund and that the two countries where polio still exists are Pakistan and Afghanistan. Colin Fuller, thanked Jan for her excellent presentation and congratulated Harrison and the whole rotary team for their efforts to eradicate polio.
