OVER the past year the Clehonger Playing Field Committee has been overseeing improvements, on the playing field which are still continuing.

The new picnic bench is now in place on the playing field, tucked in next to the flower bed, which was planted up with wildlife friendly plants with the help of children from Clehonger School last autumn. Eventually the shrubs and flowers will grow to make this a sheltered and fragrant setting.

The plants are surviving well considering their proximity to exciting play equipment - the odd casualty to damp rot, and damage from misplaced feet, but on the whole putting on a colourful display.

Having been moved over to the playing field by a group of volunteers, the bench, which is made of recycled material and is designed so that a wheelchair user can sit at it, was planted by PA Environmental and Gardening Services in dire weather conditions. The first photo taken of the bench showed it covered in hailstones!

Now the sun has come out it is being well used and people are appreciating it as a place to chat with friends while children play and to have a snack and drink.

A few of those who have been involved in the playing field project took advantage of a sunny day to have a picnic last recently.

The committee are very grateful to The Herefordshire Public Green Spaces Grant, Wye Valley Brewery and Clehonger Playing Field Funds for making this possible, and to all the volunteers who have helped along the way.
