LOCAL primary school children had the opportunity to meet award winning children’s author and book illustrator Petr Horacek at Blue-ginger gallery and coffee shop in Cradley on May 14.

Petr, from Worcester, who writes and illustrates his own books spent Saturday afternoon reading some of his books to an audience of very interested children. Petr’s illustrations bring a simplicity and humour to every tale and every picture hints at a story.

All the children had a chance to draw their own pictures alongside Petr’s and an opportunity to receive a personalised signed copy of Petr’s books.

The children had a fabulous time, listening to Petr reading his storybooks and drawing fun characters in the style of Petr’s books.

Petr has illustrated more than 35 books. He has won awards around the world for classics such as Silly Suzy Goose and A New House for Mouse and was shortlisted for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in 2012. Born in Czechoslovakia, Petr now lives in Worcester with his wife and two daughters.

Petr is one of the featured artists in Blue-ginger’s new exhibition Here Comes Spring! which runs until the end of June. Entry to the exhibition is free and is open Wednesday to Sunday and bank holidays from 10am to 5pm.
