HOLMER WI celebrated its 75th birthday in May and marked the occasion by changing its meeting venue for the first time.
Formed in 1941 at the height of the Second World War, the ladies met in what was then an old tin hut next to Holmer Parish Church more recently replaced by a modern church centre. Now, with membership increasing the WI starts its new era at St Mary's Church on Grandstand Road.
Members celebrated the landmark with a special Sunday lunch at Burghill Golf Club when the two longest serving members, Margaret Hartland, 56 years and Kath Lambert, 53 years, presented president Jenny Hare and treasurer Jane Jenkins with bouquets. At the May 4 meeting members enjoyed the traditional birthday cake, baked by WI member Frances Riddell.
Holmer WI meets on the first Wednesday of each month (7.30pm) at St Marys Church, Grandstand Road and welcomes new members.
