A SERIES of fundraising triumphs have resulted in a very positive outcome at Burghill Community Academy.

A wooden fort climbing frame within the children's playground had deteriorated to a point where it was starting to fall apart. Deemed to be no longer safe for use, it was dismantled in October 2015 and the rotten wood was used to form part of the local bonfire and fireworks night held at Tillington Court Farm.

This left very little for the children to play with in their top playground and so a series of fundraising activities were undertaken to raise the necessary funds to build something new.

Parent, teachers and the friends association (PTFA) raised thousands of pounds and were able to provide new play equipment for the school.

Fundraising events held included car boot sales, discos, bag packing, Christmas and Easter fayres, Easter egg hunts, movie nights and the Crocodile 8 run.

These events not only raised funds but provided experiences for the children.

On January 15, the whole school, along with teachers and some parents watched the official opening of the trim trail. Mr Morley the schools headmaster said words of thanks to the children and parents for all their hard fundraising efforts. After an exciting countdown, a ribbon was cut by Alex Wright (the oldest) and Jacob Denslow (the youngest) pupils at the school, followed by cheers and applause from all of the children.

The school now boasts a fantastic trim trail assault course which is proving to be a real hit with all of the children.
