A GROUP of 30 adults and children attended the Remembrance Service beside a memorial cross in St Mary's churchyard, Gladestry.

Colonel Peter Mayes opened with a poem by Canadian military doctor and artillery commander, Major John McCrae, entitled 'In Flanders Field'. Gerald Smith read out names on the cross of those who died in the two world wars. Crosses, one for each life lost in the two villages during the wars, were laid by WI member Joan Hughes. Brother and sister Sheila McGough and Terry Meredith, whose uncle, Hughie Turner from Gladestry lost his life as a young man in the Second World War, laid poppy wreaths. Twins Megan and Rhys Powell, laid a posy of poppies on behalf of local children. The hymn 'O Valiant Heart' was sung during the service.
