HEREFORD Cathedral School’s Cantabile Girls’ Choir has added another accolade to a long list of awards after a victorious performance at the International Eisteddfod on July 8.

The award-winning choir was crowned the Children's’ Folk Song competition winners after their rendition of ‘Waly, Waly’ and ‘Dance to your Daddy’ while competing against choirs from all around the world.

The win comes after a string of international awards including the BBC’s Songs of Praise Senior School Choir of the Year 2015.

Hereford Cathedral School’s Headmaster Paul Smith said: “This is wonderful news. Cantabile has been so successful throughout the year we now have countless bookings into the new term. The girls have worked really hard.”

Melanie Cuthbert Cantabile manager, said: “We are so proud of the girls they sang beautifully against some outstanding choirs from around the globe.

“Our girls are building quite a reputation – there are so many requests for them to perform, we have a packed diary until the end of the year.”

Cantabile also came fourth in the Senior Children’s Choir 2015 competition and the choir met HRH, The Prince of Wales during his visit to the Eisteddfod.

The event has been running since 1947 and Llangollen has staged one of the world’s most inspirational cultural festivals.

Each year around 4,000 performers and as many as 50,000 visitors converge on this beautiful small Welsh town and its International Pavilion; to sing and dance in a unique combination of competition, performance, and international peace and friendship.

Its competitions climax with the prestigious ‘Choir of the World’, which determines the best overall choir of the event. In 2005 Luciano Pavarotti added his name to the competition in recognition of his appreciation of the festival and its influence on his career.
