A FRUGAL lunch was hosted by Val and Alan Blake at their Riverside home in Hampton Park Road, Hereford recently to raise further funds for the City of Hereford Rotary Club's projects in Sri Lanka.

As part of Rotary's Group Study Exchange Scheme, two local Rotary Clubs - Colwall and The City of Hereford - had entertained, in the spring of 2012, a team of young adults from Sri Lanka. Ashraff Ali, the leader of the team stayed in Hereford with Rotarian Roy and Hannah Davies, who were subsequently able to go to Sri Lanka and visit projects, which were being undertaken by Rotarians there for the benefit of a variety of deprived and disabled people, who were coping with poorly equipped schools, extremely sub-standard toilet provision and totally inadequate water supply.

In 2006, the Manacare Trust created The Hopes and Dreams Village to provide homes, employment and medical care for victims of the tsunami of Boxing Day, 2004, which had caused widespread destruction of homes and other buildings. 250,000 lives had been lost; and many orphans and severely injured victims of all ages were in need of care.

The photographs being held by Rotary president Jimmy Morrison and Roy Davies relate to the most recent Manacare project, supported by Hereford City's Rotary Club, which was to develop a café, which would benefit the whole community and generate income and interest in the Trust from passing tourists and other visitors.
