THE 61st Huntington fete will take place in the gardens of Huntington Court, near Kington, HR5 3PZ, on July 18 from 3-5pm. It will be held by kind permission of Mr and Mrs William Shone in aid of St Thomas a Becket Church, the United Reform Church and Huntington village hall.
The fete will continue its traditional theme with its coconut shy, giant skittles, quoits, splat-the-rat and a chocolate sponge stall competition. There will be the usual rush for the homemade cake stall, the wonderful plant stall and the incredible book stall run by 90-year-old Werner Guttmann, plus the homemade preserves stall. A balloon race will be held. Last year, the furthest balloon arrived at Llangollen, 71.7 miles away.
The town crier of Knighton, in all his robes, will announce the fete will be opened by Stephen Gilling, who has been the church organist for 50 years. With homemade teas taken on the lawns to the catchy music of Bandamania and the usual good weather, a very good afternoon is anticipated.
A free bus will leave Mill Street, Kington, to take people to the fete at 2.30pm and will be returned by 5.15pm. Further details from www.huntingtonchurch.co.uk
