THE Lionstock festival held recently at the Lion in Leintwardine was a huge success.

The event raised £4280 for their chosen charities: £2600 for Leintwardine Youth Group, £2600 for St Michael’s Hospice and car parking charges on Brockley Meadow raised £180 on behalf of the Harley Estate.

The two-day festival attracted a large number of people from along the English/Welsh border as well as further away. It started on the Saturday with an afternoon and evening of live music from bands including The Ripcords, Skinny Bones, Fight the Bear and The Lone Wolves.

On the Sunday there were children’s activities and games, a bouncy castle and a battle of the bands competition featuring local acts Katie Green, The Megs, Wyson, One Too Many, Alex and Dan Clewlow, The Rogues and Obscure. The winners were The Rogues from Ludlow, who are made up of Rob Davies, Alan Walker, Lewis Edwards and Scott Cummings. Runners up were Wyson from Bishops Castle, who are made up of George Woolford, Joe Hawkins, Joe Carthy and Milo Ellis.

Organiser Jess Long said “A huge thank you to everybody who helped us to raise £4280 for our chosen charities. This fantastic result could not have been achieved without the help and hard work of everybody who donned wellies and macs to come and join in, all the bands who played their socks off providing such high quality music, all the crew who provided the technical back-up, Leintwardine Youth Group for such enthusiastic work, the children's activities, the Harley Estate and Leintwardine Tyre and Battery for allowing us to use their land for parking, LWC for their sponsorship and supply of bars, Ludlow Brewery for lending us the racks for the beer, and finally all of our staff who gave up their weekend and without whose enthusiasm and hard graft we could not have managed.”
