CAFÉ @ THE CHAPEL - The regular Thursday morning ‘Café at the Chapel’ at the Chapel in Chapel Lane is available every Thursday from 10.30am till 12 noon and provides an opportunity for anyone to call in for an informal chat over a cup of tea, coffee, etc.

Everyone is welcome to stay for as long or as short a time as they wish. No charge is made for refreshments though donations are welcome and are given to a charity at the end of each year.

This is a joint venture between St Michael’s Church, Bodenham and Bodenham Christian Fellowship and is hosted by members from both churches (and other local residents).

FLICKS IN THE STICKS - Presents The Riot Club (15) tomorrow at Bodenham Parish Hall.

This is a fictionalised version of the famous Bullingdon Club, the breeding ground for many future cabinet ministers.

KNIT-IN - The Bodenham Romanian Support Group will hold its regular ‘knit-in’ today, today from 2pm till 4pm at 7pm Ash Grove View.

There is no charge to take part and wool can be provided, but gifts of spare knitting wool, rug wool or other variations are always welcome.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB - The Friendship Club will meet in the parish hall next Monday at 2.30pm when members will be served afternoon tea.

BRECON LIONS - Powys Teaching Health Board is very grateful to the Brecon Lions Club for their recent generous donation.

The group has given more than £3,000 to pay for a flexible laryngoscope that allows doctors to easily look at a patient’s airway, including the nose, the throat and vocal cords, checking for polyps, cancers and other problems.

The out-patients manager, Rosanne Lyles and Sister Judith Jamieson received the donation and explained that “this new equipment will allow us to carry out more examinations each week and both reduce the waiting list and allow more patients to be seen in Brecon rather than having to travel out of the area.”

STAINED GLASS WINDOWS: A TALK - On March 7 there will be a fascinating illustrated talk and demonstration of the art of stained glass window making, in Bredwardine Village Hall, at 7pm.

The talk will be given by local artist Nicky Hopwood, who has created many beautiful windows in churches and homes around the area.

This is great opportunity to come and learn about the techniques involved in this ancient art, and also to see some contemporary examples of stained glass work.

Nicky’s presentation will be followed by a light supper of home- made soup, bread and cheese.

PILGRIM COURSE - The last session is at the Rectory today, 7pm.

PRIMARY SCHOOL - Our last Rag Bag collection in January raised £133.20. Thank you all very much.

Please have a rummage and pop any clothes, handbags, paired shoes and household linen into sealed bags and drop in the clothes bin outside school.

Parents evening will be on Tuesday, please speak to the secretary if you still need an appointment. On the Thursday, February 26, Year 2 will be going to see Noah’s Ark Zoo.

PRE-SCHOOL - Kids club will be starting from Monday and is being run by the preschool with the full backing of Tracey Kneale.

There will be a breakfast and after school club offering exciting benefits for the children. It will be open to both primary and pre- school children. We will be offering fun activities including computers, crafts, construction and a reading/homework/quiet area.

We will also be asking the children for their ideas as to what they would like to do although television will not be an option. In the better weather we will be taking our activities outside. In the morning we will be offering cereal and toast, in the afternoon there will be healthy snacks with water, milk or squash. Bookings can be taken any time and hours can be increased although we need one month’s notice to decrease hours. Forms are available from pre-school or the primary school office.

LUNCH CLUB - In St Michaels Hall every other Monday from noon until 3pm. A special time for over 50s with a two course cooked lunch, raffle and much more.

FAIRTRADE - Between Monday and March 8 a time to celebrate the impact of Fairtrade and asking you to turn a spotlight on the producers who grow the products we love. Fairtrade goods will be on sale at Koffi Pot in the Baptist Hall on March 6, 10.30am - noon and St Michaels Hall on March 8 after the 10am morning service.

ART CLUB - Members come from a wide area and meet at Kilpeck Hall on a weekly basis for 12 sessions per term during spring. We meet on Monday afternoons 2 - 4pm with a break for tea.

KINGTON MUSEUM - The museum officially opens for the 2015 season on March 28 at 10.30am. However, there will be a pre-season preview on March 27 from 7pm, to which you are cordially invited. There will be a drink and a nibble, the opportunity to peruse the displays (most of which are new and include farming, milling, 1950s, Kington Railway and Church Street through time) and perhaps to volunteer your services. Thanks are due to all those individuals who have generously donated or loaned items for the displays. The museum will be manning Rita’s Charity Shop from March 21 - 27. We are a charitable trust run by volunteers and any funds raised will be used to go towards the running costs and improvements to your museum.

Last year’s Limerick competition was very well supported with over 150 entries ranging from the scurrilous to the sublime. Many thanks to all those who entered. This year we invite you to enter a Clerihew competition. Once again there will be excellent prizes.

Clerihews have just a few simple rules: 1. They are four lines long, 2. The first and second lines rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other AA BB, 3. The first line names a person or pet, and the second line ends with something that rhymes with the name of the person or pet, 4. A clerihew should be funny.

KINNERTON WI - The Kinnerton WI meeting was held at 7.30pm on February 5.

After federation local issues it was announced that Old Radnor WI had kindly invited Kinnerton and others to a centenary picnic at Dunfield House June 14. The Woodland Trust have donated 30 saplings for the WI to plant late March around the pond and village. The speaker was local artist Jane Keay.

She displayed and illustrated some of her pen and watercolours. Thanks to Jane and all who came. Our next meeting will be March 5 and the talk at 8pm will be on meat preparation with Mr Bufton from Kington.

KNIGHTON AND DISTRICT ROTARY CLUB - Last month was another interesting one.

On the first meeting of the month we were very pleased to welcome former Rotarian Bruce Morgan, from Leintwardine, as the newest member of our Rotary club.

We look forward to sharing meetings, friendship and fundraising with him, and his wife Sandie. Later in the month we had a speaker, Julia Roberts, from Dementia Friends to increase our awareness of dementia and the effect it can have on the sufferer, as well as friends and family.

Enid Edwards from the Alzheimers Society contributed and we were told about a new organisation in Knighton KINDA – Knighton Initiative for Dementia Awareness. This group had their launch at the Knighton Community Centre on February 14 and we feel that such a charity is an important addition to the many groups in Knighton and surrounding areas. MOON INN - Alan and Karen Davies of the Moon Inn, Mordiford, have recently held the following events in Aid of the Children’s Ward at Hereford Hospital. A live band from Gloucester, Which One’s Jerry, raised £640 and an auction raised £913. The total raised so far is £1790. They wish to thank everyone who has donated and supported these events. Ocle Pychard and Much Cowarne

FUN FOOD AND DRINK - The Burley Gate village hall committee invites everyone to an evening of ‘fun, food and drink’ at the hall from 7.30pm, on March 6.

The event will include live entertainment by ‘Hobson’s Choice’, known as Europe’s most Inland Sea Shanty Group. Tickets are now available from Jo Monkley on 01432 820130 and are priced at just £10 to include a ‘hearty supper’. All proceeds go to the maintenance of the hall.

PARISH WALK AND FOOTPATH MAINTENANCE - Ted Parkes, the footpaths officer for Much Cowarne, has organised a regular series of walks through the parish to check the condition of local footpaths. YOGA CLASSES - With over 20 years experienced teacher Jenny will be taking a yoga course beginning on Thursday, February 26 in Whitton Community Hall from 7pm - 8.30pm. NEW BOOK - Local author, Roger Kite, author of the popular book You’re Not From Around Here, Are You? has a new book out.

VACANCY - Presteigne and Norton Community Support have a vacancy for a warehouse co-ordinator for their Furniture Warehouse in the High Street. The hours are a maximum of 30 per week and the pay is £7.50 per hour. The person should have a good local knowledge, DIY skills would be an advantage and computer skills desirable. A driving licence is a essential and a DBS check will be required.
