WHEN fire protection officer Andy Coombs visited the Shop at Bromsberrow for an inspection, providing new fire fighting equipment, he met two willing volunteers who serve at the shop, keen to learn how to use the extinguishers. Gay Samuel and Jan Long enjoyed a "hands on" lesson using foam and water extinguishers and were shown how to use the fire blanket. Andy Coombs commented "The fire extinguishers in the Shop were no longer fit for purpose, but I was able to utilise them for training purposes for Gay and Jan, who were confident about using equipment in an emergency. The old equipment was removed and now the Shop is fully compliant with the required regulations." Spokesperson Jan said, "The imperative is to ensure our community shop is safe, and with flammable materials, combustible items and electrical equipment in the village community Shop, it is vital that we all know how to use the fire fighting extinguishers, which could not only prevent the loss of provisions and goods in the shop, but more importantly, could save someone's life".
