LOCAL Presteigne woman Paula Randell organised a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support last Friday at the Royal British Legion Club.

This year's coffee morning had a bit of a twist as Paula decided to have her hair shaved off to raise money for the charity. Paula said "A few months ago while I was organising the coffee morning, I read an article in a magazine saying that Macmillan were promoting the Shave or Style campaign 'Standing up to cancer together' to raise cancer awareness. I thought to myself: 'That's the least I can do to do my bit for cancer. So I contacted Macmillan with a view to combining the head shave with the coffee morning. The icing on the cake was the fact that I could donate my hair to The Little Princess Trust in Hereford who make wigs for children with cancer."

Paula, who is secretary of Presteigne Football Club added: "People have been so generous. I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me, everyone who helped out at the coffee morning by donating cakes, prizes or their time, and especially to Derek Lister who kindly did the shave. Also to The British Legion for letting me use their facilities for free."

The total raised so far is almost £1700. If you would like to sponsor Paula please call 260485 or visit www.shaveorstyle.org.uk/shavers/paula-randell
