A COUNTY firm has netted a national award for its work in the field of air conditioning.

Leominster-based I-I-Ice Ltd scooped an RAC industry award for building energy project of the year at a presentation evening in Mayfair.

AkzoNobel in Slough provided the opportunity for I-I-Ice ltd to innovate low-GWP solutions and so following design approval it went on to carry out the installation of an ammonia heat pump to heat and cool a commercial building – a UK first.

I-I-Ice had the vision and carried out the ground-breaking installation with AkzoNobel claiming the operating costs have been cut by a staggering 96% by using the ammonia heat pump as opposed to using the conventional chiller/boiler combination. The results have been impressive and RAC judges raved about the energy reduction and the use of heat recovery in an office setting calling it an “exceptional project of it’s type”

As well as be the winner for the building energy project I-I-Ice were finalist in 4 other categories. Air con and heat pump innovation, low carbon achievement, refrigeration innovation and end user of the year awards
