A LEOMINSTER business is thinking outside of the box with its new venture.

Basically Wooden, run by husband and wife team, Andrew and Sue Garrett, combines traditional carpentry with modern technology to produce unique wooden items.

The business recently launched its 'wibble bord' which offers a new way to enjoy wine and nibbles, with a cut-out for a glass on the opposite side of a board to a holding tab.

The couple returned to the county in 2013 after seven years in London and are now selling their unique range of products to as far away as Australia.

Mrs Garrett said: "Andrew's background in carpentry and joinery meant working with wood was the way to go.

"When we returned to the county we both fancied a complete change and decided what we wanted to do. We decided we would start our own little small business and it's all gone from there – we've been going just over a year now and started in March 2014."

Mrs Garrett's background is in IT and she worked at the RNC in Hereford for 10 years.

"It was slow to start off with and we were testing the markets on different products that we make. We also bought a laser cutting machine although we still do quite a bit of traditional carpentry," she said.

Products range from toys, boxes and organisers to items for the home including lighting and kitchen utensils.

They also offer a laser cutting service and have made products for Betty Twyford, while their carcassonne tile towers are proving popular in Europe.

"We did the wheels for a gun carriage for a re-enactment group which was used over the last bank holiday weekend," added Mrs Garrett.

"We are going up to the UK Games Expo at the end of May and we're taking all our game boards up them."

Basically Wooden has a display area at the front of its workshop, based on Leominster's Enterprise Park, with some limited items on sale there but products can generally be bought online.
