100 CLUB - The football club recently held its last 100 Club draw of the year at the Royal British Legion Club. Len Hounslow drew the following winners: £100 Mike Edwards, £50 Elwyn Powell, £40 Peggy Stephens, £30 Steve and Lynn Deakins and £25 Geoff Fowden. COUNCIL - The next meeting of Presteigne and Norton Town Council is on September 19 at the Shire Hall at 7.30pm. The public are welcome to attend.

FLU JABS - Presteigne Medical Centre is having its annual flu vaccination clinic on September 25 from 10am-12.30pm. You are advised to have the flu vaccine if you are over 65, diabetic, asthmatic, suffer from chest, kidney or liver disease, have a low immune system, if you are a carer for the elderly or a disabled person or if you are pregnant. OPEN MIC - There is an open mic evening with Stevie Yeomans at The Wine Bar on Wednesday from 8.30pm. Everyone is welcome.

CHRISTIAN AID - Angela Mann would like to thank everyone who donated or collected in aid of Christian Aid. This year was by far the best with a total of £1,413.49 collected, beating the previous best in 2008 by more than £200.

FILMS - The first film in the new season of Presteigne Film Society will be Carnage (15) starring Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet and will be shown in the Assembly Rooms on September 14 at 8pm. SAVOURY SATURDAY - You are invited to a savoury evening this Saturday at the Royal British Legion Club with music from local singer Lisa B. Tickets in advance cost £5 or admission at the door is £6. Tickets are available from the club or from Silver Lining Shop in the High Street. Any savoury contributions will be welcome.

COFFEE - The women’s section of the Royal British Legion Club is holding a coffee morning on September 22 from 10am. There will be stalls and a raffle. Everyone is welcome.

YOUTH BAND - The Upper Rhine Youth Wind Band will be playing at St Andrew’s Church tomorrow (Friday) at 7pm under the conducting of Julian Gibbons from BISYOC. The colourful programme includes Star Wars, Riverdance and Danzon 2. Admission at the door is £8 for adults with children free. For further details call 260551.

RACES - Sunday sees Llanandras Races at Broadheath Common. The qualifiers start at 1pm with the first race starting at 2pm.

There will be a bar and licensed bookmakers.

The event will be run under BHRC rules.

SPORTS EXHIBITION - The sports exhibition continues until September 23 at the Judge’s Lodgings. The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am-5pm daily and admission is free.

ART EXHIBITION - As part of h.Art Herefordshire Art Week there is an exhibition at the Wine Bar from Saturday until September 16, open from 10am until late Tuesday-Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday and Monday. The local artists, photographers and sculptors include Ciara Lewis, Bronte Woodruff, Chris Butler, Ambrose Burne and Sarah Minskip.

ARTS SOCIETY - The next meeting of Presteigne and Borders Floral Arts Society is on Wednesday at the memorial hall from 7.30pm. Barbara Priest will give a floral demonstration entitled More Tea, Vicar? This month’s competition is an arrangement in a flower pot for harvest. Visitors are welcome for £5. YOGA - Jenny Matthews is holding yoga classes at the memorial hall beginning next Thursday, September 13, from 7pm-8.30pm.

BEER AND FUN - A great day was had by all who attended the Presteigne Football Club’s Beer Festival and Fun day on August 26.

There was a good selection of local beers and ciders to sample and lots of activities to keep everyone entertained including some big inflatables, karate demonstrations, pony riding, skittles, football match, competitions, games and lots more.
