Home-Start has a new deal to continue its vital work with vulnerable families.

The Hereford Times highlighted the plight of Home-Start earlier this year when a five-figure cut in funding from Herefordshire Council threatened its existence.

Now Home-Start not only has a new contract with the council but 19 new volunteers to expand the help it offers to those suffering from poverty, illness, family breakdown, isolation, addiction and mental health issues.

Over the past year alone Home-Start’s 98 volunteers worked with 161 families and supported 329 children across the county.

That work was at threat in March when the council ceased £74,000 to the charity. The council’s new offer of a new two-year contract won’t cover all of that sum, a grateful Home-Start is sure it can survive and thrive.
