CELEBRATION - The East Radnor Day Centre in Presteigne held two Diamond Jubilee parties so that all its service users got the chance to celebrate. Some of the cakes were made and donated by centre volunteer Mary Brown, Judy Charlton and Gill Husbands.

Two special Diamond Jubilee cakes were made by Dorothy and Ken Jones.

THANK YOU - The organisers of the jubilee street party were delighted that so many people, young and old braved the weather to celebrate at the Memorial Hall on June 3.

The newly elected mayor of Presteigne and Norton Brian Price opened the event and helped serve refreshments. Organiser Jenni Simpson reported that as a result of the generous donations received the surplus will be donated to Presteigne and Norton Community Support.

CEILIDH - There is a ceilidh with Sue Harris and Bandamania on Saturday to celebrate the Presteigne Food Trial at Wentes Meadow from 7pm-9pm. Admission is free but donations will be gratefully received. Food will be available to purchase on the night.

FUN SESSIONS - There are free fun sessions at the Scout Hut every Wednesday (during term time) from 3.30pm-5.30pm for children aged eight to 12. For details, contact Nick Waller on 01597 825236.

SHEEP MUSIC - This year’s Sheep Music is at Wentes Meadow from July 20-22. Tickets are now on sale at £60 for a weekend pass.

CHESS CLUB - Keen players are welcome to attend the Farmers Inn on Tuesdays from 7.30pm. For details, call David Hancock on 231208. All standards of play are welcome.

CONCERT AND TEA - Afternoon tea is followed by a variety concert at Cwm Whitton on Sunday from 4.30pm. Admission is £8 for adults and £4 for children. Proceeds will go to the Air Ambulance and Whitton Church.

FOOD TRAIL - Saturday is Presteigne’s first food trail from 9am-6pm. There will be cafes, stalls, tents, music, gardens, workshops plus more. This is a free culinary day. For further details, visit presteignefoodtrail.org.uk.

ALLOTMENTS - Presteigne and Norton Allotments Association has an open day on Saturday. Pop down to Wentes Meadow and see what is being grown at the moment.

CONCERT - The children at John Beddoes School are having a summer concert in The Ivor Hughes Centre at the school on Wednesday at 7pm. Admission by ticket is £4 for adults and £2 for children. Buy tickets from the school reception or call 267259 for more details. The concert is dedicated to road accident victim Sam Boughton by his form, 9T.

COUNCIL - Presteigne and Norton Town Council meets on Wednesday at the Shire Hall, 7.30pm. The public are welcome.

PAYOUT - There is a Community Dividend awards ceremony tomorrow (Friday) at the Memorial Hall from 5.30pm-7pm. Cwm Harry is donating £11,000 to local organisations from recycling in Presteigne. The organisations who were nominated last year for an award include the Youth Project, the football club, Mid Border Arts, the Warden Foundation, the Little Peoples Playgroup, Translight Community Stage, Wales Air Ambulance, the Primary School, Community Support, the Day Centre, and the Judges Lodgings. There will be free drinks and nibbles and everyone is welcome.

BEER - The football club’s annual beer festival is on August 26, from 2pm.

FAIR - St Andrew’s Church summer fair is in the churchyard on June 23, from 2pm, with refreshments in the church hall.
