Odeon has signed a deal to open a multi-screen cinema to Hereford.

The city’s new cinema is now a definite forthcoming attraction after Odeon signed the deal to open a six-screen digital and 3D cinema to the £90 million retail development on the old cattle market site.

The multiplex is expected to be open by 2014, when developers hope to have the scheme’s Debenhams and Waitrose stores open too.

Odeon says the site – the only digital multi-screen on offer within a 25-mile radius – will be a “flexiplex” with the capacity to combine coverage of major sporting competitions and live music with hosting large scale corporate events.

Alistair Shaw, of market site developer Stanhope, said: “This deal is a significant piece in the jigsaw for the old market development.

“Odeon’s commitment to open a six-screen cinema will make a real difference to Hereford’s evening economy.”
