BISHOP of Hereford’s Bluecoat School student Manu Hasan was spotted at a school concert as a gifted pianist, and offered the opportunity to record the CD required to enter the prestigious Woodards School Young Musician of the Year competition by the custodians of Herefordshire’s community Steinway.

Manu took third prize and followed his success with a second prize in the European Piano Teachers’ Association competition at the Steinway Hall in London “Being given the opportunity to record my CD on such a magnificent concert grand was an amazing experience,” said Manu, who lives in Fownhope and whose parents, Saadi and Bridget, are both doctors, The Steinway, which ‘belongs’ to Hereford Cider Museum Trust, is housed in the city’s Holy Trinity Church, which has a growing reputation as a concert venue and is in the personal care of Stewart Taylor, director of music at the church, Another city pianist, Amalie Fisher, a student at the Cathedral School, will be playing the Steinway when she gives a Mozart concerto concert at Holy Trinity on Wednesday.
