CHURCHES in Herefordshire have won a share of £1.6 million of lottery money for urgent repairs.
Ten churches across the county will benefit from work through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Repair Grants for Places of Worship scheme.
Administered by the English Heritage, the scheme is designed to rescue crumbling listed buildings of faiths and is this year giving almost £750,000 to Herefordshire.
In Herefordshire, churches receiving money will be:
• The Church of St Francis Xavier, Broad Street,Hereford.
• St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Leintwardine.
• Aylton Church, Aylton.
• St Faith’s Church, Dorstone.
• St Giles’s Church, Pipe Aston.
• St James’s Church, Wigmore.
• St Mary’s Church, Almeley.
• St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Leinthall Starkes.
• St Michael and All Angels Church, Kingsland.
• St Michael and All Angels Church, Lyonshall.
