Resurfacing is taking place this week on the main Hereford to Worcester road.
Work on the eastern side of Fromes Hill is needed to replace the road surface laid at the start of February which has failed to meet required standards.
Amey has instructed their sub-contractors to replace the defective material which, it says, will come at no cost to Amey, Herefordshire Council or the taxpayer.
Motorists have been warned to expect delays while the work is completed.
