A COURAGEOUS family will pay tribute to a beloved sister and daughter this month by doing their bit for the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF).

Teenager Cendl Rowbotham bravely jumped 13,000ft to earth last weekend just as dad Dan prepares to cycle 1,000 miles in memory of Beren Rowbotham.

Beren, from Pontrilas, was just 10 years old when she died from meningitis in April 2008.

Dan, aged 48, and his partner Jen Currie, 40, are taking their trusty tandem to Hereford's French twin town of Vierzon following a civic send-off from High Town on Saturday and plan to include a further two skydives along the way.

Meanwhile Cendl joined the Red Devils for a parachute jump last week and raised more than £800 for the charity.

Dan said: “Jen and I have completed charity tandem skydives previously, but really want to use this experience to help raise further funds to eradicate meningitis in all its forms and raise awareness of the disease.”

Cycle Hereford Group members will also join the couple as far as Mordiford before they head to France.
