THE fantastic fantasy tale Alice in Wonderland is being staged at Malvern Theatres this month.

This New Year treat for all the family is an adaptation of the famous book by Lewis Carroll and is a production by the Malvern Theatre Players, the resident amateur company of Malvern Theatres.

MTP has a well-established track record in producing stage versions of popular children’s books, having staged entertaining productions of Roald Dahl’s stories James and the Giant Peach, The Twits and The Witches in recent years.

Alice in Wonderland will be performed in the Forum Theatre from January 14-23, following hot on the heels of this year’s Malvern Theatres pantomime.

The world that Alice falls into is strange and wonderful and a stark contrast to the cold and repressive Victorian life from which she is escaping.

The magical world of Wonderland is relocated in this adaptation to the medieval era of heraldry and knights in shining armour. The audience will meet the Mad Hatter, the King and Queen of Hearts, Caterpillar, Mock Turtle, Tweedledum, Tweedledee and all the other strange and wonderful characters that Alice encounters on her incredible and exciting journey.

See the Jabberwock defeated and the Cheshire Cat give Alice homely advice as she travels along guided by the White Rabbit.

The cast of 20 adult actors and 25 young people bring the story to life with the support of the combined technical resources of the Players and Malvern Theatres technicians.

As for other recent shows, the costumes and make-up have been designed and made by students from Worcester College of Technology School of Art and Design, who will also support the show throughout its performances.

Alice in Wonderland has been adapted by Amelia Marriette who adapted the amazing Revenger’s Tragedy for MTP a few years ago and the successful comedy Nay, Remember Me, last year.

Tickets are available from the box office on 01684 892277 at £12 for adults with half-price tickets for under-16s.
