HUNDREDS of students are planning to demonstrate in Hereford next week in protest of the Government's plans to triple university tuition fees and to make significant cuts in the education sector.

It will start outside the three colleges in Folly Lane next Wednesday (Nov 24) and will continue into the city centre.

Students are invited to bring banners and placards, but the organisers have said that they do not want to see any violence.

Last week, more than 50,000 students went to London to protest about the cuts, which resulted in the Conservative HQ in Millbank being vandalised and clashes between some students and the police.

However, many students, including some who were protesting in London, have told the Hereford Times that the media's coverage has been greatly over exagerated.

• People on benefits are also planning on demonstrating through Hereford on the same day.

The protest is against the Government's cuts and will start at Hereford Job Centre.
