THEATRE Brycheiniog and the Borough Theatre both begin their autumn music programmes this coming week with a touch of Americana.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame residents The Platters bring their knack for updating old “doo-wop” standards to Brecon tonight (Thursday), before West End star Martyn Lucas appears in a Brat Pack-inspired show called One Night in Vegas at Abergavenny on September 10.

TV’s Likely Lads star Rodney Bewes then looks back to the turn of the century with a musical hall-inspired performance called One Man in a Boat, also at the Borough Theatre, on September 11.

The Platters were the first rock and roll group to have a top 10 album in the USA.

The famous vocal group will sing hits including I’m Sorry, He’s Mine, Enchanted and The Magic Touch when they take to the stage at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, Martyn Lucas sets out his own corner of the entertainment capital of the world in his new concert-style show with a variety of dance numbers, a “hot” show band, spectacular costumes and songs from the likes of Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Davis.

The day after, Rodney Bewes stars in an old-fashioned, oneman adaptation of Jerome K Jerome’s well-loved comic novel Three Men in a Boat, which sees Jerome alone narrate the japes, scrapes and narrow escapes he had with fellow protagonists George and Harris.
