THE Wild Hare Club hosts an extraordinary one-off show on Friday, June 11, bringing together three diverse artists: punk poet John Cooper Clarke, reggae DJ Don Letts and songwriter Helen McCookerybook, all of whom cut their performing teeth during the punk rock explosion of the late 1970s.

“The evening’s intended both as a celebration of the years when listening to John Peel on the radio every evening brought something fresh and exciting to listen to and to showcase what these true originals are doing now,” says Richard Page, MC of the ever-evolving Wild Hare Club.

John Cooper Clarke, sometimes dubbed the Bard of Salford, is undergoing something of a renaissance at the moment, entertaining audiences all over the country with his rapid fire poems and deft one-liners.

Also on the bill is the veteran DJ Don Letts, as well known as a film-maker these days as he is as at the turntables.

Anybody who has heard Letts on BBC 6Music will know that he continues to seek out fresh sounds but that dub reggae remains his first love.

Less famous, but equally special, is singer songwriter Helen McCookerybook, whose individual songs chronicle the world with a singular charm.

The venue is the Blue Rooms on Berrington Street which is reopening its doors to live music following a refurbishment.

Tickets are £15 available in advance from ticketweb.co.uk or on the door on the night. Doors open at 8pm.
