THE atmospheric deserted St John the Baptist Church in Llanwarne provides the backdrop to an open-air production of Romeo and Juliet on June 11.
Presented by Arts Alive, Miracle Theatre Company is touring a fresh adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless love story, but this is no ordinary re-telling of a classic tale.
Known for its richly inventive and physical theatre, Miracle creates a totally original world where senses soar and humour is found in unexpected places. The lovers inhabit a war-torn place where society is fiercely divided and everyone around them is blinded by conflict and hatred.
“In this play Shakespeare describes the experience of first love with such accuracy, warmth and gentle humour that it rings as unbearably true today as it did 400 years ago,” says director Bill Scott. The show starts at 7.30pm. Call 01981 580396 to book advance tickets at £8 adults, £5 children. On the day, tickets are £10.
