AN ENGLAND footballer has praised a Burghill soldier for showing his own “goldenballs”
in combat.
Signaller John Knight met David Beckham during his surprise visit to Afghanistan on Saturday.
Meeting the former England captain in Camp Bastion was a dream come true for the 25-year-old Manchester United fan.
Pt Knight, of 10 Signals, emailed the picture to his thrilled parents, Peter and Leslie Knight, back in St Mary’s Park.
“He’s always been a huge United fan so David Beckham is the coolest guy on the planet to him,” said Mrs Knight.
The pair added they were very proud of their son and former Aylestone High School pupil, who joined the army in 2008.
Beckham, who will miss the World Cup through injury, said he was full of admiration for the soldiers during the “humbling” visit.
