THERE was a double success for Hereford Kayak Club members over the weekend with wins at home and abroad.
Sharon Colley travelled to Scotland to compete in the Glasgow to Edinburgh kayak challenge and ended up by beating all the other competitors, both men and women, to the finish line as she set a new ladies' record for the race.
Colley took a six-minute lead on the first day of the 55-mile race on the canals between the two cities and extended this to 13 minutes on the second day as she finished in a time of eight hours 41 minutes. She is the first woman to win the event.
Another Hereford paddler, Claire Spencer, enjoyed a successful weekend in the Junior International Regatta in Boulogne and returned home with three medals.
A number of countries competed with French clubs over the 500m and 1,000m course and Spencer raced in a K4 over both distances, winning a gold medal in the 500m and a silver in the 1,000m.
She then teamed up with Amoret King from Reading in a K2 to gain another silver medal over 500m.
Spencer is now hoping for selection for an international regatta in Germany later this year.
