Ledbury Round Table is to spend a record sum on this year's bonfire party at Ledbury Park, in honour of Lord Nelson.

Usually around £2,000 is spent on fireworks, but to mark the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar, that figure will rise to £3,000.

The event is on Friday, November 4, and gates open at 6.30pm. Tickets are on sale at Briggs the Pharmacy, in The Homend.

They will also be sold tomorrow (Saturday) under the Market House, from 11am to 2pm.

A special visitor at the stand will be South African Colin Javens, who only has full movement in one wrist. Later this year, he will drive a specially-adapted Land Rover Discovery from Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where he has had treatment, back to Cape Town.

Mr Javens is raising money for the hospital and Ledbury Round Table has helped him with his appeal, donating £2,000 following a ladies night at the Green Dragon in Hereford in April.
