Ledbury Town were involved in another close West Midlands premier division game on Saturday but a late goal again robbed them of much-needed points.

LEDBURY TOWN 1, LYE TOWN 2

The New Street side held their own for much of the first half but fell behind just before half-time, when Lye Town scored with low shot from the edge of the area.

Ledbury rallied in the second half and again matched their visitors in open play, as they pushed hard for an equaliser.

They had to wait until midway through the half before the goal came, when a good cross from the left by Jamie Hyde found Nicky Welch and he turned and fired home a powerful shot.

Ledbury appeared to be heading for a point but a long clearance by the visiting goalkeeper cleared the home defence. Andy Burgess ran through to lob the ball over the outcoming goalkeeper in the 80th minute.

LEDBURY TOWN 0, WELLINGTON 1

LEDBURY Town entertained local rivals Wellington the previous Wednesday and it was a close affair.

The home side started the brighter and could have been two up in ten minutes with efforts from Dan Herbert and Nicky Welch. The rest of the half was fairly even with Maynard not called on to make any saves in the Ledbury goal.

The second-half again was end to end, but on 70 minutes Ledbury's defence failed to clear their lines and Matt Williams scored from the edge of the box with a low drive which seemed to deceive goalkeeper Paul Maynard.

Ledbury continued to press for an equaliser but to no avail.

Man-of-the-match was Scott Roberts.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Ledbury are at home in the league to Dudley Town. Kick-off 2.45pm.

On Tuesday evening (October 18), Ledbury Town are at home again when they entertain county rivals Pegasus Juniors in the HFA Floodlit Cup. Kick-off 7.45pm.
